Regional Biomass Opportunity

BNA is driving a cleaner, brighter future for its members through renewable energy initiatives. In addition to reducing environmental impact, these initiatives will stimulate local employment and long-term financial returns for the First Nation.

Regional Biomass Opportunity

Through Lake Nipigon Forest Management Inc., Papasay and its neighbouring shareholders are looking at a project in which we can use brush piles and underutilized species (like poplar) to convert to natural gas. This would involve the construction of a large biomass power plant. The First Nations are looking at this opportunity to see which location would be the most viable for this facility on the Lake Nipigon Forest. In August 2022, BNA, BZA, AZA, and RRIB signed a Letter of Intent with REN Energy from British Columbia to construct a facility on the Lake Nipigon Forest. The project is being supported by government and industry alike, with the potential for hundreds of jobs created in the plant and the forest.
