Bioheat Study

BNA is working with TBT Engineering and Northern Community Solutions on a District Heating Project for the First Nation. The idea is to hook up as many homes and buildings as possible to a central biomass heating system. These would use chipped residue from the Papasay Sawmill operation to heat homes through a converted piping system in the homes. The goal is to find a critical mass of infrastructure to make this initiative economically feasible, as well as finding the appropriate location for this unit.

The BNA Biomass Project is another key example of the First Nation’s drive to be as clean and green as possible in its development. Utilizing waste and residue from its Sawmill operation to lower the heating bills for its on-reserve residents creates a green internal economy, while at the same time creates an environmental template for other communities to utilize for their own green developments.
