Food Sovereignty

Food sovereignty has become a far greater issue for First Nation communities, especially in this era of rapid changes to the climate. BNA has constructed a greenhouse and raised garden beds near the area by the creek and future community greenspace. With this space, the community could grow seasonal vegetables. Lumber was utilized from the Papasay Sawmill for the building of this Project. BNA’s Family Well-Being will work with the youth for the 2023 growing season.

Going forward, BNA hopes to make the greenhouse “year-round”, ensuring that fresh vegetables can be grown in the wintertime.
